Signs your gravel driveway needs restoration

  • Potholes that come back after every rain
  • Washboard ripples that rattle your vehicle
  • Standing water and soft spots
  • Grass, weeds and brush growing in from the edges and center
  • A driveway that has lost its crown and no longer sheds water
  • Overhanging branches and brush scraping vehicles

How we restore a gravel driveway

Clear the edges

We cut back encroaching brush and overhanging growth so the full width of the drive is usable and gets sunlight to dry out.

Regrade and reshape

We break up the hardpan, pull material back from the edges and re-establish a crown so water runs off to the sides instead of sitting in the tracks.

Address drainage

Most driveway problems are water problems. We look at where water is coming from and where it needs to go, and shape the surface and edges to move it away.

Add material where needed

When the existing gravel is worn thin, we’ll recommend how much new material makes sense and include it clearly in your estimate.

Driveways, lanes and access roads

We work on residential drives, long rural lanes, cabin roads, farm access and two-tracks throughout Kent, Ottawa, Allegan, Barry, Newaygo, Mecosta and the rest of our West Michigan service area. If you’re building a new drive through wooded land, start with our site preparation services.

FAQ

Gravel Driveway Restoration questions

How often should a gravel driveway be regraded?

It depends on traffic, drainage and Michigan freeze-thaw cycles, but many driveways benefit from regrading every year or two. Fixing drainage and restoring the crown helps it last longer between visits.

Do I need new gravel?

Not always. Often there’s plenty of material that just needs to be pulled back from the edges and reshaped. If it’s worn thin, we’ll tell you and include it clearly in the estimate.

Can you widen my driveway?

Often, yes. We can clear back brush and trees along the edges and shape the extra width. Let us know your goal when you request an estimate.
